.......and the signs are up!
We are 1 week away from our 3rd LEAF Open Farm Sunday on the 11th June and in true “1 week to go” style, we are all flat out getting jobs done in between everything else that needs done. Road sides and bridleways are cut, general tidy up is underway and signs are going up. The excitement is building but it does seem to have clashed with a busy few weeks in other areas too!
Last week I took part in the NFU Farmers for Schools Training with 16 other likeminded farmers from around the North East region. The aim was to equip us enough to be able to hold a 30 min assembly with high school aged pupils, a daunting task indeed, but a real opportunity to talk about our industry in real terms – not the media spin. I’m really looking forward to my first assembly so stay tuned for an update. If you know of any high schools you think might be interested then here is the registration link to sign up for an NFU Farmers for Schools lead assembly Farmers for Schools - NFU Education (nfuonline.com)
This week, I’m off to the NSA North Sheep event at Bradford House Farm, Ponteland, Northumberland, NE20 0HA with a friend. There’s plenty to see starting with a farm tour, seminars and exhibitors, all made even better by winning free tickets and lunch through KiwiKit Roxan – thank you! Then it’s the Childrens Countryside Day with my LEAF Open Farm Sunday Ambassador hat on to talk all things British Farming with circa 1500 North East First School aged children. Always a rewarding day with some brilliant questions but I don’t know how teachers can talk all day – by 11.30 last year my voice was already struggling!
And then it’s back to the final preparations for Sunday 11th June. So if you’re free and in the area next Sunday we’d love you to drop in and meet the team (including visiting Alpacas and Heavy Horses), have a walk and grab some lunch or a tasty treat.
