Back in November last year, I had the bright idea to host some school visits over lambing time, an idea that was well received and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We welcomed pupils aged 5 to 15 to join us for a typical day in the lambing shed where we covered pet lamb feeding (and cuddles) to signs of a lambing ewe, health and hygiene practices to dealing with difficult births and everything in between. Our youngest visitors absolutely adored their time with the oh so friendly pet lambs (always happy to please) and our older pupils continued to build on their previous visits following on from pregnancy scanning to lambs on the ground.
I can't express enough how important these types of experiences are in helping to form a more positive understanding of what's happening up and down the country throughout our farming year, experiences that could help encourage someone to look to our industry as a potential career path or even just to better understand the care, dedication and pride which goes into producing top quality British produce.
