About Us
Welcome to Kypie farm, a 372 acre mixed arable and pedigree sheep farm. Located just out with the Northumberland National Park in the rolling foothills of the Cheviots, we are incredibly fortunate to live and work in this stunning landscape.

We truly are a family run farm. David and Marlyn Mair moved to Kypie Farm 34 years ago when they were offered a farm tenancy on Ford and Etal Estate. David and his daughter, Anne, head up the team but are ably and frequently assisted by Marlyn, Anne’s husband Darren and their sons Henry (14) and Ewan (11). Farming has been part of our family for many generations.

Grow
The majority of our farm is down to permanent pasture (long established grass) for grazing our sheep. We also have 3 fields of temporary grass (sown less that 5 years ago) which is used to produce silage or hay for feeding over the winter months. Our arable crops cover approx. 80 acres and include wheat, barley (both winter and spring sown) and occasionally some oats. We retain all of the straw for bedding and some barley for feeding, with the rest sold for animal feed. Surrounded by an abundance of birds and wildlife, we work with nature to preserve and enhance habitats as part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

Breed
Our pedigree flocks are our pride and joy. This passion started with a small Suffolk flock around 20 years ago, in fact, we can still trace our flock today back to our original 5! Since then, we have established a further three flocks; Texels, Blue Texels and our newest additions, Hebrideans. All flocks are run “closed”, which means that we breed all of our own replacement ewes and only “buy in” our stock tups or rams from carefully selected bloodlines. Annually we offer a selections of gimmers (1 1/2 year old females) for private sale and 60 or so shearling tups (1 1/2 year old males) which will make the short journey north to the world renowned Kelso Ram Sales, thought to be the largest single day Ram sale in Europe if not the world!
